Adventures With Hypnosis Relaxation

In 1949, I had a real problem with a dental phobia. Four dentists had refused as that patient. I had two abscess teeth and a mouthful of other cavities. My dental phobia was so bad that it forced me to go to the hospital a few years earlier to have kidnapped three teeth abscess while I was unconscious.

I went a dental convention where I found the dentist recommended that hypnosis. He could not work on my teeth, but he said he thought he could help me. Thus, at lunchtime, I went in his room with several other dentists and he hypnotized me with a "standard" induction technique. Then he taught me something psychological relaxation. If I raised my left hand every time I felt my right hand becomes a fist, indicate the voltage, the dentist would stop, and I would lay my hand below my right and left hand.) I do not think it would work, but I made an appointment with the dentist who had refused last and recommended hypnosis.

For the first few minutes, I got up my left hand, and it stopped immediately. After that, I do not need to lift his left hand much at all, and he worked quickly.

He pulled two bad teeth, and drilled and filled with a dozen more in one hour and a half session. I had Novocain for the ill, and has no need for others. The dentist and I were amazed at this, and he asked me if I was really twins

For me, a 22-year-old student of engineering, it was a real miracle, and I started learning everything I could about this miracle cure. I read everything I could find, from 1700 to literature Mesmer, Coue, etc., to Erickson, hairdresser, etc.

I became an electronics engineer, and continued what my major career, but my role has continued to hypnosis and, by extension, psychology. (Much of the psychology of behavior is similar to hypnosis). I used it professionally, he taught in a University doctors and continues to learn about it. I did a 'show', and considered a career as a hypnotist stage, but was more interested in using it to help people, because it helped me.

In 1979 I left the engineering electronic, and turned to psychology. I went back and earned a doctorate in psychology based on my education, life experience, and my doctoral thesis. I became a behaviorist psychologist successful years in private practice in Florida. I gradually transformed into a practice when orthomolecular I discovered that these types of therapies worked better than any therapy "talk", although maintenance therapy is sometimes useful too.

Hypnotic Relaxation

During the many years of study, and later career as a psychologist, I realized that the original dentist who hypnotized me had actually done. With hypnosis, it was just giving me a "tool" new conscious relaxation. With this simple tool, I could change something in my unconscious called a phobia. "It was not really a miracle if I had thought at the time. Adding this knowledge to my knowledge of Pavlovian "conditioning responses" I was chosen what I called Bate relaxation technique.

It's very simple, but it can be very powerful - more powerful than the realized most because of its simplicity. It begins with a general technique of hypnotic induction relax the muscles of the body, starting with the toes and up on the scalp and face. Then, in a state of muscle relaxation, ask the subject to view a beautiful relaxing scene, he / she is in. Describe the scene. Ask them to focus on how beautiful and relaxing it is.

Then, ask the subject to remember the feelings of relaxation and concentration, they feel at the time. Ask them to put these feelings in their memory like a photograph. Then give them a post-hypnotic suggestion that they can now recall those feelings all the time, they have just three. End of session and have been rising, take a deep breath and just count to three.

It's simply amazing how often the shoulders slump 2-3 inches or some other muscles that About Time usually stress relaxation. I describe the "strange" feeling like a sort of blah "feeling. (As that raise issues of the session, their "normal" evolution of muscle stress takes effect, and the instant "relaxation is definitely known.)

I can say about them now have the model, but it is for them to use it often, several times a day, even if it is not necessary for the next week or so. This will set the model in their unconscious as a "conditioned reflex". (Remember the dog Pavlov?) Now they have the same tool that I got at the dentist's home, but it is much more important and valuable. It relieves instantly stress of any kind.

Driving a car on a long distance is very stressful. My wife and I recently conducted more than 20 hours straight through, with me driving about 14 of those hours. At 78 years, this is not "normal". The secret - we simply count the two or three time to time and are able to relax while driving. Muscle tension is very tiring, and few are able to relax the muscle tension behind the wheel.

This relaxation technique is very useful in many ways to help solve the psychological problems of phobias, compulsions, and even serious physical problems. I was able to resolve tens of asthma among all people between 7 and 15 years and was often successful with the elderly. (Children in this age are very impressionable, some adults are too cynical.)

The system is simple, but effective. First, teach relaxation. Then, the patient is truly emulate an attack bad asthma. "Come on, really bad, your throat tightens more and more." It's getting worse and worse. "When the patient starts to become really distressed, say: "Now, count to three." As he reached three, he relaxes and says: "Now he is gone, and you're in control."
Several years ago, I did not have this routine on the 14-year son of lifelong friends. When I was visiting them a few years ago, I went into the store's son, and he recognized me immediately. I was surprised because he had been more than 20 years since he had saw me. He said: "Do you think I could ever forget the man who cured my asthma?
It was a great day for my ego.

There is nothing magical or mysterious about it. Everything you do is teaching something "new" to the unconscious mind. This "trick" of instant relaxation are learned as a conditioned reflex by repetition and use. It becomes a tool for the mind conscious use in all types of situations to reduce stress. As everyone knows, we stress the ages, reduces the immune system and helps to kill us.

The various forms of yoga and other meditation techniques are similar and yet different. They relieve stress, of course, but they are of little use immediate stressful situations. This relaxation is immediate.

This can also be used for self-hypnosis statements and positive visualizations.

I also used for patients who wish to quit smoking as a "substitute" to the urge to just now an addicted smoker.

An idea that many people "fear" of hypnosis. The idea that another person has "control" over them, and can literally make them do anything. Every experiment ever conducted has shown that it is simply not true. Hypnosis can not force someone to do anything against his moral code. The unconscious is very protective, and it what we are working with either hypnosis or subliminal training.

There is some possibility of "indirect" misuse of hypnosis. I once attended a demonstration of the hypnotist. It was a very attractive woman who was very hypnotizable (instantly in somnambulism by snapping his fingers). He was hypnotized and told to undress. She woke up instantly and was embarrassed, but had no conscious recollection of why.

He then hypnotized again and this time she was told she was at home in his bathroom with the door closed, and it would take a bath. It has quietly begun to take off his clothes. He stopped before it got too far but she was obviously completely strip.

It was interesting to see how he stopped. He said that someone came home and was near the bathroom door. She said: "Do come in. I am not dressed."

It was then dress and she awoke. She had no recollection of the incident.

When I was a young man, I had a small friend with whom I had sex with once or twice. And she had been hypnotized several times as well. One night I wanted sex, but did not. I used the index hypnotized, but in vain. She refused, even hypnotized. So the idea that someone can make you do something you do not want to do is wrong. I can personally attest. Our unconscious mind is very protective of us all ways, although some facilities may be wrong.

Of course, if you work with either hypnosis or subliminal training, or almost any type of psychology seriously, you should be aware of the unconscious mind, as she always does what you try to influence.

Hypnotic Age Regression

This is a very useful tool for a psychologist, or indeed, any doctor of any stripe. By virtue "light" hypnosis, it can be used to pull the information about the patient's life he or she has forgotten consciously. (Unconscious memory, has everything in it.)

Over there are many "tricks of the trade" involved. After my relaxation technique, I used a "deepening" technique that has something like this: "Now I want you to imagine and visualize yourself descending a staircase stock as I count to ten. One, can you imagine walking on the form and feeling of action under your feet. Two, as you move down, relax even more. Three, as you go lower, concentrated more and more. Four, and as you relax more, you can focus more. Five, positive cycle of concentration and relaxation continues as you move down. "

Continue with repetition similar to nine, and then, "Ten, descend the escalator into a room. This room is yours alone. It is only in your mind, and nobody else can ever enter. You can do whatever you want. In this room, you can do anything or see anything that will help you become a better person. In this room, you remember everything you want. "

Then I start questioning. For example, a man came to me to try to find a loss precious engagement ring diamond. He and his fiancee had broken out, and she returned the ring to him. He remembered taking the ring, but when he came home he could not find it at all. I made the above technique, then began.

I said. "I want you to go back in time until she gave you the ring. Where were you and she now? "

He said: "We were room in his life.

"Well, do you take the ring. What did you do with it?"

He said: "I am putting in my little watch pocket of my jeans. "

"OK, now you're leaving. What happened then?

"I get in my car driving home "

"Well, what happens next? "

"I go into my room and change clothes."

"Why?"

"I must go to a dinner presentation of baseball."

"OK, what have you done with your jeans? "

"Oh no! I'd put in the washer!

That was the story. He returned home and found ring stuck in the washer. (The history of such a habit is that she is trapped in the "U" in flight sink.) This illustrates the value of "age regression" as an aide-memoire.

Of course, it is also useful to discover the beginnings phobias and compulsions. A woman came to me with a phobia of cats and asthma. I do not normally like above, and a couple others useful techniques found the problem. A "trick" is to say: "OK, now you go back in time. It is your 15th birthday. You are awake in the morning. Do you have asthma?

She replied: "Yes." (She had earlier said that the contribution of questioning her asthma started early. I started well past that in order to bring the patient used to go back.)

"Ok, you are now ten years old, wakes up on your birthday. Do you have asthma now? Same answer.
"OK, you are now five years for your birthday. Do you have asthma now? "Same answer

I worked back through 4 and 3 and 2, 1, and started back in months. I got to the ninth month, and she had no asthma. Yet she had no recollection of any which was bound. So I went to the tenth month, and went back, day by day with the same question. I got to day it does suffer from asthma. Now, I asked: "What happened to you during the last day that caused you to have asthma? I'll count to three, and when I am three, you'll remember everything. One, you're remembering. Two, memory returns. Three, you remember, now, everything. "

She was then treated, "I was lying on his back in a nursery, and the cat jumped into the crib, and lay across my mouth. I could not breathe or cry, and scared. I do not know what happened past, but I think I touched the cat, and she left me.

It was two birds with one stone. Cat Phobia, and asthma done so. Asthma is often a "protective" device used to maintain the oxygen in the body. Most can breath easily but have real problems to expire. It was his case.

Then we come to the really interesting part. Age regression of past lives. As an agnostic, I do not really know whether the many stories I have heard many people are true, or something of the spirit universal or what?

Probably the only story is the most impressive man coming toward me with two phobias life he had been the highest memory. He was mortally afraid of fire and water. He thought that these phobias may result from previous lives, and asked me to try to find out.

It was easy to hypnosis, and with little urging repassed by birth to the previous life. He was a clown circus, and had been burned to death in a fire circus. It was then a return to a life before that. It seems he had stole a horse and was caught. The militias have not a tree, so they hung a bridge. The rope broke and he drowned. Well Naturally, it took much longer to cross, and some suggestions for me. He was cured after a phone call a week later.

I had several of these interesting cases. Another was fascinating to me. Under hypnosis, a man said: "All I can see is a bird. "I kept after him about this bird for 10 minutes or more, but he could not see much that this bird. Finally, he said:" It a black bird, and it is my shield. "

I pressed the difficult subject of his shield, Was he a sword and a horse. Everything Suddenly he shouted: "There is blood all around me, and everything about me and my horse. I kill people all around my sword, and they try to kill me! "

I questioned him closely, and it became clear that the date was 1066 to the Battle of Hastings the Normans conquered England.

It is the story true? I can not say with certainty, but it was impressive.

When I gave seminars and talks on hypnosis, usually I end up doing my relaxation technique, and my deepest. Then I would say, "In your room, sitting comfortably, I want you let your mind out of your body. Let him go into space, and as you see the ground behind you, as the familiar blue and white marble, see space as almost velvety, with stars and planets are very clear and consistent. It's really beautiful here in space. Now, you reach a white cloud which is becoming bigger, and you are now entering. On the other hand, there is another world of blue marble. When you approaching, it looks like Earth, but you get real close, you do not see the big cities, but its beautiful parks and beautiful buildings that appear to be part landscape. As you come to Him, and walk around, you notice that people are all welcome, and pets are all welcome, and the gardens and parks are all around simply the best you've ever seen. You are filled with the same kind of happiness that seems everybody has. You are at peace with yourself and place ".

"Now it is time to go, and we will return to space again. Ahead of us is that even white cloud, and this time, as we enter, we make a left turn and we're going back in time. The year is 1700 on Earth and that we return to Earth now we'll all go in a body at that time and place. I want you to look at your feet and your clothes and your surroundings and have a sense that you are in this body. Now it is time to return. We leave this time and place, and up through the white cloud, and again in this block of marble Blue Earth, and again to this comfortable seat, and your own body again. As I count to three back, you'll wake up no drowsiness or sleep or affected by my voice at all, and remember everything you did. "

So I look, "Three, two, one, wake up completely awake. Now, how many people actually lived as beautiful planet? "

Approximately one third or more really see clearly. (Some were a little anger against me for not letting them longer!) Then I asked: "Now, how people themselves experienced in 1700? "Surprisingly, about one third were very good and clear visualizations. A woman was indignant" I bare feet and legs scratched and I was a woman in the service. "She had a very high opinion of herself in this life, obviously. Needless to say that these stories were very interesting and varied. A woman impressed me with, "I was in a dark place waiting to be born. "

Of course, these stories prove nothing. They might be products of the imagination, or just snippets of some something of the unconscious mind or universal. However, or whatever they are, in bulk by honest people with no direct interest known they do not prove something beyond our conscious knowledge.

An "Impossible" Story

Here is a true story that is incredible many people. In reading about hypnosis, I came across an article where a professional hypnotist had said he had been able increase the size of a woman's breasts using hypnosis. I rejected this request until in 1978, I read an article by Dr. Ted X. Barber in the Journal of Clinical Hypnosis about hypnotic phenomena. This article has discussed many different hypnotic phenomena, including several experiments in different colleges who have all made a similar experience. If I remember (this much later date), each college used 8-12 women, who were all a bit flat chest, and all wanted bigger breasts.

All have been carefully measured above and below real breasts, and through them to the nipples. Once a week for 12 weeks, they have been hypnotized as a group, and told him to visualize things like, "you see in the mirror naked with breasts larger. Enjoy your breasts larger. See how well they look and how you feel comfortable with them. Now, see yourself wearing a dress becomes very, and how you look with your new breasts. It increases your confidence as well. "

These comments were repeated several times. As I recall, the average for the various experiments showed that 80% actually increased their breast size, and the average increase was 2.1 inches.

Take another look deeper on this. The success rate way to lose weight through hypnosis is considered less than 65%. In other less reported experience of breast size, which reduces the size of breasts in women with breasts too large, the success rate was negligible.

Moreover, this suggestion is specific -- Add the cells of the body to a certain body part only! We have no real knowledge when mammary cells were added, or only fat cells, but still!

I won two paris from other psychologists that this story was published in a renowned scientific journal. I made a tape of hypnosis specifically for "Breast Enlargement" and heard a few women who bought it that it was indeed for them. Unfortunately, few people report either success or failure.

Why not hypnosis work better on the task "less" to lose weight or lose weight in breasts? The explanation is difficult, but in my experience, the social "benefit" for women big breasts inhibits the unconscious to lose this "Advantage". Some women are "punish" themselves (or their husbands) being fat. (Sort of "love me for me, not my body"). Grounds unconscious mind are often so obscure and difficult for our conscious mind to understand. The computer analogy of "garbage in - garbage out" applies here.

Harmful Unconscious Ideas

The unconscious can be a force for good or bad. There seems no discrimination - again like a computer. If a virus is elected, he can alter many other programs different ways.

Consider a very illustrative case. A woman has a boy of 8 years for her hypnosis for bedwetting. I made the direct suggestion of habit, and told him to keep him off all dairy products for at least a week.

Two days later, she and her son were back. Without success. This time I did hypnosis age regression. He went back (with a little urging) when he was 4. He was in bed almost asleep when he heard someone trying to get in his window. He was so terrified he wet himself, and cried. The burglar (real or imagined) to the left. The unconscious "logic" to the boy - urination protects against intruders in the night. It was not difficult to remove this logic (computer viruses), and his mother said he did not wet again a few months later.

The grand master of hypnotic therapy, Milton Erickson once had an almost comical situation in which he solved in a unique way. It seems that the newly married couple came to him because everyone was wetting his bed. On their honeymoon, the bed was wet every morning and thought the other was very thoughtful not to mention it. After a few days, each of them has confessed and went to Erickson.

He them agree to do exactly what he said and then I told them to kneel on the bed when they were ready to sleep and everyone had to urinate, and then sleep in it. They returned a few days later, and they kept their word. He told them: "Since you did as I told you tonight, you can go to bed normally without urination, and come back tomorrow. " The next day, they said the bed was dry during the day, so he "helped" them another night to dry. Then another, then he was declared "cured".

These two stories illustrate the immense power of the unconscious both good and bad. One major task of the unconscious mind is to "protect" the physical body (the house of the unconscious spirit) of the danger. If a threat is perceived whether real or imaginary, it into action, although action may adversely affect itself.
