Get the help you need after leaving a dependence
Have you stopped drinking, smoking or bulimia, then fell "out the car? "Maybe because you do not have the kind of support system you need when you left?
I quit drinking 21 years ago now. One of my friends all asked me the other day if I think that drinking more. So I gave him my answer honest. "No, I never think to drink and I know I'll never drink again." Then she asked the same thing smoking since I smoked for 28 years and almost quit 8 years ago. Same answer: "No I do not miss it and I know I never smoke. "
She said: "Fine. Few people can say in all honesty, I do not think. "
Perhaps that is true, but I do not really know. I told him it was so long ago that I do not think. It's almost as if I had never even smoked or drank. I a very different life now. Why is it possible that I do not miss smoking and drinking (and I used to be fat, too, compulsive eating)? Three reasons, I believe:
One, I had great support from my family and close friends. Two, I had great support from my faith in God. Three, I started changing my habits to support life, I wanted to have a life without addiction. I could not continue to do the same thing every day as I had before, because I needed to form new habits.
Do you have the support you need family and friends? Maybe you should rethink your social environment or to pay more attention to your spiritual side.
Here are six things you can do to get the support you need your strength and your determination to quit any addiction you have struggled with:
- Stop to see friends who do not support your decision or positive in nature. If you think everyone will be happy that you cease your smoking addiction, you might be surprised that people will try to harm you and you get to take your addiction again. Some people do not want not be alone with their addiction. They want the company. If so, you should consider not spending time with them for now even if they are members of the family.
- Stay away from any environmental that might attract you to your old habits. If you are an alcoholic and had stopped smoking, it is best to stay away from bars in the beginning of your sobriety. As time passes and you become stronger and do not feel tempted by alcohol, you can go to a restaurant that has a bar. I do not still propose to go to bars common reason you'll be in a type of environment that you really do not want to be and more. You go through some changes wonderful and do not need to be pulled back at the bar scene.
- Take walks in nature and wearing a Walkman with a tape to listen to spiritual. Being in nature is a great way to calm down. I know that when I stopped drinking my mind had raced for about 12 years, while I drank a lot. It was new for me to calm my mind. But it was dungeon I liked going to the beach and walking to work after a spiritual band to help me calm my mind more. It may be a new experience for you, but it is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure that you stay away from what you were addicted to.
- Take a hobby that you've been putting off. You have time to continue going that you were turned off. How many times our lives revolve around our dependence. This is not the case today. Take time to find a pastime that you enjoy and can stick with. Enjoy. It will help you get used to your "new life".
- Join a group, church, volunteer or take classes that interest you. Get your mind off yourself is huge! When you're addicted, life is all about you, is not it? Now you want out of yourself and participate with people who are doing something positive their lives. With volunteering, you help the people you need. They are there, in front of you and they need you now. This is one of the best ways to help you recycle you to think of others first.
- Decide to do something new each week. Often, life becomes stagnant, when one is addicted, especially to a substance. At first, you can almost have to push you to try a new treatment per week. It can be scary to go out and try new things. So, start small. It could be taken to a center of the city, make two mile walk, or go for a coffee by yourself. It is important to start doing constructive things that keep your mind and thoughts raised. When I was, I never drank something new. It was the same old thing, day after day. It is also important to start take further action and make changes in your life.
